ABOUT OLIVERS OPTICIANS

Olivers Opticians first opened in the village of Chalfont St. Peter in 1994 thanks to many months of hard work and help from friends and family. Since then the practice has continued to grow and is now one of the leading Opticians in the region. Here at Olivers we are always at the cutting edge of innovation and design, many patients have been with us from the start, while new patients constantly continue to join us.

We offer a fast, concise, friendly and personal service – supplying contact lenses, designer spectacles and sunglasses. A full sight test and contact lens check up can be provided and we have onsite glazing facilities using the latest technologies.

We are very proud to employ highly qualified Dispensing Opticians whose knowledge and experience we believe to be crucial for every visit to our practice. Our friendly and helpful reception team are available 6 days a week to assist with any appointments or queries.

Definition of a Dispensing optician according to ABDO (Association of British Dispensing Opticians)

A dispensing optician (DO) advises on, fits and supplies the most appropriate spectacles after taking account of each patient’s visual, lifestyle and vocational needs. Dispensing opticians also play an important role in advising and dispensing low vision aids to those who are partially sighted as well as advising on and dispensing to children where appropriate. They are also able to fit and provide aftercare for contact lenses after undergoing further specialist training.

All registered dispensing opticians have undergone a minimum of three years academic and practical training to qualify. Only dispensing opticians registered with the GOC can practise in the UK, or use the protected title dispensing optician.

Their specialist skills include professional advice on lenses for night driving, UV protection, prescription sunglasses, spectacles for VDU use, sports and safety eyewear.

Dispensing spectacles to children, to the visually impaired, or dispensing of contact lenses can only be undertaken by, or carried out under supervision of, dispensing opticians or optometrists registered with the GOC.
